Acute and Chronic Homeopathic Treatment

“The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle, and permanent restoration of health in the shortest, most reliable, and most harmless way.”

— Samuel Hahnemann, founder of homeopathy

Homeopathy is an energetic medicine that stimulates the body to heal itself. It is based on the Law of Similars (“like cures like”) which states that any substance that can produce symptoms in a healthy individual can, in an energized form, cure those same symptoms in a sick person. So, for example, a person suffering from hay fever with watery eyes and a clear nasal discharges might be given Allium Cepa, a remedy made from onion, because onions can cause watery eyes and clear nasal discharge.

The remedy is slightly stronger than symptoms to be cured, so it “nudges” the body’s healing defenses. When the brief initial action of the remedy subsides, the strengthened immune system is able to fight off the disease. This is in contrast to the use of antihistamines, which do the work of the immune system, suppressing the symptoms by drying up the discharges, without allowing the body to mount its own defenses.

Homeopathy is effective for both acute and chronic ailments.

Acute conditions come on quickly and are of relatively short duration – from several hours to several weeks. They can often be traced back to a cause such as standing out in a cold wind, eating bad food, or lifting heavy objects.

Examples of acute conditions are food poisoning, accidents, toothaches, sore throats, and influenza. Although these acute conditions may resolve themselves, if left untreated or if treated incorrectly, they can become chronic.

Chronic conditions are those complaints that have persisted for a long time – sometimes throughout one’s whole life. The symptoms are usually less severe than those of the acute conditions, but they can seriously affect quality of life and become progressively worse over time.

Examples of chronic conditions are insomnia, allergies, recurrent infections, arthritis, thyroid disorders, post-traumatic stress, diabetes, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, back pain, digestive issues, chronic fatigue

Chronic conditions do not resolve themselves, but can be treated with the help of well-chosen homeopathic remedies known as constitutional remedies.
